Just a note to let you know how much I am looking forward to this new Wonder unit. I’m happy to have your child in my group. It is my prayer that this will be a time of growing in faith for all of us!
You may already be familiar with Dwell, the curriculum materials we are using. These materials are specifically designed to guide us in our learning and growing. It is a comprehensive and thorough program, and its emphasis is on nurturing our faith. The curriculum goals (and mine!) for second- and third-graders are to help children
- come to know and delight in stories about Jesus and about God’s people.
- develop a deeper understanding of who Jesus is and how much he loves us.
- respond to God (Jesus) with attitudes and actions of love, trust, wonder, obedience, and praise.
For the next six sessions our theme is “Wondering About Jesus’ Incredible Love.” The sessions will include stories of Jesus’ last days on earth, the resurrection, and his appearances to others before his ascension. We will be emphasizing that Jesus is alive! Alive for us today too!
We’ll be memorizing Matthew 28:5-6 and learning two songs—“Mighty Resurrection Day” (a Scripture song based on Matthew 28:5-6) and “Oh, How He Loves You and Me.” Both songs are available on the DwellSongs 1 CD or as a download. You’ll find them on the leader support page of DwellCurriculum.org.
Please pray with me that the Holy Spirit will use these Dwell materials, along with our leading—yours and mine—and our examples of faith, to guide your child—and each child in my group—into a life of faith!
